2010 the year of Mobile Marketing

leave a comment »

In case you haven’t heard, mobile marketing is all about marketing to people through their mobile phones and smart-phone devices. Small businesses haven’t had much of an opportunity to engage consumers on mobile devices, but 2010 has the potential to change that.

Demand is increasing dramatically for mobile applications and mobile web-browsing due to wider adoption of devices like the iPhone and the Google Android phone. As more people adopt these phones and features in 2010, look for small-business marketing services to start providing lower-cost mobile marketing solutions like text messaging, mobile e-mail marketing, mobile websites, mobile application development and location-based marketing.

Make 2010 your year to collect mobile preferences from your prospects and customers, and use tools like Google Analytics to see how many people are visiting your website on mobile web browsers. If you find interest in mobile interaction among your customers, begin testing simple mobile marketing campaigns such as sending a few mobile coupons via text or building a mobile micro-site for one of your products.

Marketers Looking Beyond Slump

leave a comment »

by Tanya Irwin

Marketers plan to hit the ground running once the economy takes off.

For now, however, they are in a holding pattern of short-term strategies, according to a study by the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) and ‘mktg,’ a marketing services company.

Media budgets will be increased as conditions improve, according to more than two-thirds of the respondents (68%) to an April online survey of members of the ANA Brand Marketer Leadership Community panel. Forty-one percent said they will step up social networking/word-of-mouth, and 40% intend to raise spending for innovation and testing/learning.

Almost three-quarters of the respondents (73%) said they hope to employ these increased marketing activities three to six months before the recession ends, and by an additional 16% as soon as it ends.  Read the full article here

Businesses to Use SMS for the Hearing Impaired

leave a comment »

Many businesses in today’s world deal directly with the deaf and hearing impaired. While technology has recently begun to aid in this demographics specific needs, SMS messaging is still the current solution for communication. There are drawbacks to SMS messaging technology such as a the availability of talk plans that just offer texting, limitations to the length of messages, and a lack of true emotion. Text messaging however has mobilized the world of deaf and hearing impaired persons.

With this in mind, it is easy to see why any business would want to incorporate a SMS messaging device for communication with their customers.  Appointment times, updates, and confirmations could all easily be sent via SMS to existing customers.  Marketing materials could all incorporate a text call to action to help build a new client database and send out coupons.   In all cases, the hearing impaired can effectively communicate with a business using the most effective tool available to them- SMS.

Energy programs, news and general communications via mobile

Aspen, CO (4/10/2009) –Energy Outreach Colorado is now using mobile as a “green” way to get their message out to consumers and donors.

EOC is the only independent, non-profit organization in the state that raises money to help limited income Coloradans afford home energy. They will be using Qittle’s mobile services to reach more Colorado residents who might need energy assistance in their homes.

“As an organization we are excited to be working with Energy Outreach Colorado. The good work they do for the people in the State of Colorado, helping people get through tough times, educating consumers about energy efficiency opportunities and making our State greener is something we’re passionate about,” said Casey McConnell, CEO of Qittle.

Since 1989, EOC has distributed about $100 million to fund energy bill payment assistance, energy efficiency upgrades for affordable housing and non-profit facilities, energy efficiency education, and advocacy on behalf of low-income energy consumers. EOC relies on private donations, corporate contributions and foundation grants. http://www.energyoutreach.org

“We look forward to working with Qittle to reach more people who can benefit from our energy programs and support our mission of helping all Coloradans be able to afford home energy,” said Skip Arnold, executive director at Energy Outreach Colorado. “With Qittle’s assistance, we hope to provide as many Coloradans as possible with access to the new energy technologies available today.”

Qittle helps businesses create, customize and manage a mobile marketing initiative. The company serves as an SMS OEM to the software and services industry. It has signed up numerous clients including MindBody Software, Snowmass Village, YNot Advertising, Grocio, ResortQuest, Joie de Vivre Hotels, Bono’s BBQ and The Aspen Club & Spa.
